UNESCO Visit 13th & 14th Nov 08
At the invitation of the State Party, UNESCO is sending an expert mission to Edinburgh to assess the state of conservation in the World Heritage Site and, in particular, to scrutinise a number of recent or proposed, developments, notably:
- Caltongate
- St James Centre
- Haymarket
- Leith Docks
IN the afternoon of 13 November the mission will be meeting people concerned about Caltongate and St James Centre developments.
On the afternoon of 14 November Haymarket and Leith Docks.
As part of this process, the mission will have the opportunity to speak to a range of stakeholders who have previously engaged in the planning process on these sites. This will include both those who have spoken in support and those who have voiced concerns about the proposals.
An individual will be invited to speak for around 5 minutes.
By the time the mission meets the stakeholders they will have been given a presentation by the local planning authority and visited the site. The sessions will be from 2.30 pm to 5.00 pm.
The mission will be focussing on the possible impact of any development on the Outstanding Universal Values (OUVs) of the site.
