Proposal survey can't be trusted

Evening News LettersĀ 18th October 07

THERE are a number of facts which have to be borne in mind when reading your report (October 16) which claimed that the majority of locals support Mountgrange's Caltongate development.

Firstly, the survey was designed and paid for by the developers. As such it is far from an impartial sounding of local opinion.

Secondly, survey respondents are asked to look at some of Mountgrange's plans while completing their answers. Funnily enough, none of the background information refers to the demolition of homes on the Royal Mile or of two nearby listed buildings.

Thirdly, with a response rate of less than ten per cent, it is hardly a resounding yes for the proposed development.
